You are probably familiar with the Hospice Standards of Practice and the Standards of Practice for Pediatric Palliative Care, two resources among the extensive suite of tools NHPCO provides. Both of these standard-setting resources have been recently updated, and are available here: https://www.nhpco.org/regulatory-and-quality/quality/nhpco-hospice-standards-of-practice/
I'd love to hear how you use these resources in your organization. Add a reply to let me know!
Here are the details on the updated resources:
The Hospice Standards of Practice update includes the addition of a new section, "Characteristics of High-Performing Hospice Organizations." Updates throughout both documents keep the resources in line with current standards. The 2022 versions replace the 2018 editions of both documents.
Each document provides users with Principles, Standards, and Practice Examples around nine core components of quality, including Patient- and Family-Centered Care, Ethical Behavior and Consumer Rights, Clinical Excellence and Safety, Inclusion and Access, Performance Measurement, and more. Following these standards helps providers meet and exceed the Medicare Hospice Conditions of Participation (CoPs) across all areas of their operations.
In addition to the downloadable versions of both resources, NHPCO members have access to the Hospice Standards of Practice in a Grab-and-Go format, in which each chapter is downloadable as a stand-alone PDF.
