I am new to bereavement in our hospice department.
We do have a grief support group, and do a couple of events throughout the year.
I am finding that our bereavement information is very outdated. Most is dated in the 90's and early 2000's.

May I ask, what do you use?  Where do you find resources?

Thank you so much for any direction you are willing to provide.

We use Barbara Karnes' booklets and do pre bereavement visits and then follow up bereavement visits.  She has coloring booklets for children and adults, as well as a family style booklet that lets everyone color and create a family tree.  She also has a 2 part series on 'Knowledge Reduces Fear' that I just got and can't wait to use!  I'm also a certified grief counselor and use my skills to help our families.  I'm also the social worker so I know these families as they come on and follow them through the bereavement process.  Being able to meet them before death occurs and build that rapport and safe space has been a huge step in our bereavement outcomes; it also gives the person reassurance that their family will be looked after.

    Jamie,
Thank you.  Our office utilizes the Barbara Karnes' booklets as well.  They are great!  I appreciate your response.

Hi Sherri, i believe Hospice Foundation of America may have some recent publications. They tend to keep it updated and current. Also try https://whatsyourgrief.com/.
Highmark Caring place may have something you are looking for as well. Otherwise googling bereavement pamphlets you may come across some others and you can many times request samples or even come back here on the discussion thread to see if anyone has used those particular resources, If you are new to bereavement and want to possibly ask a mentor- reach out to our Steering Committee Leader Joelle Osterhaus for information. All the best in your quest for new materials.

    Hi all!

I work with Hope Through Healing Publications and we offer a 6 part Grief Mail Series, a great option as part of bereavement support. I reached out to Sherri yesterday and sent her a Sample Set, and am happy to send anyone else on here a Sample Set.

Our Grief Mail Series (GMS) is a scheduled mailer that is sent at the following intervals:

    • H1 30 Days After the Loss

This issue has the newly grieving in mind.  It gently reminds the reader that grief, although normal, is also unique.  It includes a self-help exercise to offer comfort.

    • H2 3 Months After the Loss

This issue acknowledges the pains of grief and describes some common reactions people have during their mourning period.

    • H3 6 Months After the Loss

This issue explores how to cope with depression, anger, and guilt.  It includes suggestions for expressing these difficult emotions.

    • H4 9 Months After the Loss

This issue reflects on loneliness and offers hope and tips on much-needed self-care.

    • H5 11 Months After the Loss

Readers find fresh perspectives for facing the first year anniversary of the death.  Receiving this issue in the 11th month can relieve anxiety by giving time to implement a plan to gather family and friends to honor the deceased.

    • H6 13 Months After the Loss

This is intended as a closing piece for your bereavement program.  It is comforting for the grieving to know you are still there to help them, as it brings hope for their future.  You can let your families know that this is the last issue in the series that they will receive from you.  Our template system makes this easy.

If this timeline of mailings doesn't meet your needs, you can send out individual issues or bundle issues together to reduce mailings.

Our Grief Mail Series is an easy-to-use and meaningful tool to guide individuals through the first 13 months of the grieving process.  Each issue features practical advice, soothing poetry, stories of healing, and calming imagery.

    Benefits of this series include:

    • Scheduled, mindful content aligned with recipients' stage of mourning
    • A defined, streamlined program for standardized bereavement care programs across large organizations, departments, and branch offices
    • A cost-efficient way to align your brand with the personalized care and concern you express to families
    • Elegantly designed materials that provide soothing reminders far beyond the moment they are received
    • A meaningful approach to meeting and documenting bereavement support requirements

The Hope Through Healing™ Grief Mail Series can be customized to suit your business or organization's needs.  We provide complimentary templates and a tracking tool that enable your staff or volunteer team to easily personalize each month's mailing and document your schedule of recipients.

We would be grateful for the opportunity to support your program!

I use Hope Through Healing mailers for our bereavement program as well as their cards. Both are wonderful! Also, Alejandra is WONDERFUL to work with! She completely customized one series of the mailers for our program when we requested it. I cannot recommend them enough for your bereavement programs!
