Hello Becky,
I hope you have visited our FEBS page and saw that we have recently updated and revised the FEBS survey to the Evaluation of Grief Support Services (EGSS)! With feedback from FEBS users and guidance from an advisory group of bereavement professionals, NHPCO revised the survey to be modular and changed the name of the survey. Visit the
EGSS page for details, read the Guidelines, and begin utilizing the EGSS survey!
What's changing?
- The survey itself has a customizable version for those hospices whose bereavement program has a designated name. If your hospice's bereavement program has a name we strongly recommend that you use the customizable version to ensure that respondents focus on bereavement services and not the services provided by the hospice prior to the death.
- There are optional modules and optional questions in the survey that you can choose to remove as they may be bereavement program components that your hospice does not offer. The following modules represent various components of hospice bereavement programs:
- Grief Support Mailings
- Grief Support Telephone Calls
- In-Person Grief Support Visits
- Grief Support Groups
- Other Grief Support Services
For detailed information on how to use the survey, please read our How To document.
Data entry in the Portal will be updated at a later date to reflect the changes in the survey. If you are a current FEBS user, you will still be able to enter FEBS surveys. For now, we encourage you to begin mailing out the EGSS survey and hold on the ones received back to your hospice. We will make an announcement when data entry for EGSS surveys is available.
Questions about the transition from FEBS to EGSS, please email egss@nhpco.org.
Thank you!

Subject: Bereavement Satisfaction surveys
Is anyone using a satisfaction survey, aside from the NHPCO one, that they would be willing to share? We are in the process of trying to develop one that would gather feedback but be user friendly, i.e. short, and might have a higher percentage of return. And has anyone tried using the postcard type?
Thanks,
Becky Pfister, LISW
