Personality and Grief: A Unique Perspective of Mutual Impact (Chat Slides & Recording)

04-25-2019 04:52 PM

In May's Bereavement Professional Community Chat we discussed diverse personality styles and how grief experiences can mutually impact each other in profound ways. Certain personality styles can actually complicate and prolong grief, just as grief often intensifies certain personality styles. In addition, rigid and inflexible personality styles tend to negatively affect one’s relationships, but when grieving, those relationships are particularly needed and helpful. In this talk, we reviewed one case example and some contemporary approaches that can inform and help grief counselors in providing support when personality is a significant factor in the healing process.

The chat was facilitated by Paula K. Bunn, LMFT, FT, MA, MS, Manager, Center for Compassionate Care, The Elizabeth Hospice.
