Making the CNA’s Voice Heard at IDT (Chat Slides & Recording)

09-13-2018 04:46 PM

In September's Certified Nursing Assistant Section Chat we discussed how the CNA is a vital member of the interdisciplinary team and one who often observes critical changes in a patient’s condition. Yet many CNAs struggle with being heard at IDT meetings as it is often the nurse, social worker and Medical Director who dominate the discussion.

Listen to the recording as we explored some of the reasons why CNAs struggle with participation in IDT, reviewed pertinent information that only the CNA can share, and discussed strategies for increased collaboration.

Facilitated by: Jenny Buckley, RN, BSN, CHPN, Director, Palliative Care Services and Community Outreach at Weinstein Hospice - Yad V'Lev in Atlanta, GA and LuDeanna Lawrence, Chaplain and Bereavement Coordinator at Weinstein Hospice - Yad V'Lev in Atlanta, GA.

Presenter's Bio:

Jenny Buckley is the Director of Palliative Care and Community Outreach for Weinstein Hospice in Atlanta, GA. A registered nurse for 21 years, certified in hospice and an ELNEC trainer, Jenny is passionate about hospice and palliative care. She believes supporting the teams that provide hospice support is imperative in meeting the physical and psychosocial demands of the work. Jenny is married and has 2 sons.

LuDeanna Lawrence has journeyed a path with many in her 20yrs of Hospice and Palliative Care experience. With deep compassion and devoted pride, Deanna began her career at the age of eighteen, as a Certified Nursing Assistant, later becoming certified as a Hospice and Palliative Care CNA.  Finding that her visits were becoming more open and spiritual, Deanna explored her faith in the ministries and self compassion as an additional perk in providing hospice care.  Completing several units of Clinical Pastoral Education at Children's Healthcare of Atlanta, Deanna is now the Coordinator of Bereavement Services with the hospice company she has served for fourteen years. Helping others journey as they receive spiritual and physical support, as well as clear knowledge of Hospice care through end of life, has become her lifelong passion on following her calling to hospice work.
