Wednesday, March 1, 2017 Bereavement Professional Section Chat (2:00 PM ET – 3:00 PM ET)

In March’s Bereavement Professional chat we discussed deaths due to overdose from heroin (and other substances) continue to rise nationwide. Many of us are serving bereaved family members where the deceased love one has died from an overdose or other complications related to substance use disorders. We are also aiding grieving families that are using substances as a coping mechanism when feelings are overwhelming. In this chat we learned from one another how to address both of these concerns in working with the bereaved.

The chat was facilitated by Diane Snyder Cowan, MA, MT-BC, CHPCA, NCHPP Bereavement Professional Section Leader and Steering Committee Member, Director of Bereavement Center, Hospice of the Western Reserve, Inc in Cleveland, OH, and Wes Sturgis, MSW, LCSW, NCHPP Bereavement Professional Section Steering Committee Member, Bereavement Counselor, Novant Health Hospice & Palliative Care in Charlotte, NC.
