  • 1.  in person support in San Diego area

    Posted 05-08-2023 11:43 AM

A family member who live in San Diego, CA is wanting to find in person grief support and not having much luck. A christian framework does not fit her belief system so griefshare isn't a good fit. She works from home and is new to the area so she'd prefer in-person as a way to get out and connect with others face to face.

Is there anyone in this group who happens to know of in person groups she may be able to access?

    Much appreciation in advance.

You may want to check with ADEC -- Association for Death Education & Counseling. They have a directory of people who may be available or may know what is available in that area.

Thank you Veronica for the recommendation. When I went to their website I found lots of stuff but not a directory of people. I'm wondering if it is only available if you are a member of ADEC which I am not (as far as I know). I appreciate the recommendation. If anyone is an ADEC member and can send me referrals until I figure out how to access the directory, I'd appreciate it. My email is llirette@mthoodhospice.org or you can send it through NHPCO. Much appreciation.

    Hi Laura,

What I've found most helpful for far away families is to suggest they look for local hospices.  As we all know, a hospice generally offers their own groups that are open to the public or they have lists of groups in the area.  She might also check local senior centers, but the hospice option generally results in the best info when families have needed a group elsewhere in the country!

    Nancy,
good point. The other option may be the local
senior services of the county/city government.
They often have a listing of support groups.
