    Hi everyone;
    If you have a book discussion group - or want to start one - what books are good ones to prompt discussions about grief and loss?
    Please share,
    Diane

    I like A Grief Observed by C.S. Lewis.  It's his journal of the days following the death of his wife of three years from cancer.

    I think that one of the most important books I've ever read on bereavement and grief is "It's OK that You're Not OK" by Megan Devine (published 2017).  It's the book on grief that I wish I had written.  I have assigned it to all the spiritual care, social service, and bereavement team members at our hospice, and plan on having our entire clinical staff read it as well.

    My current best recommendation is:

     "The Wild Edge of Sorrow"

    Rituals of Renewal and the Sacred Work of Grief

    By Francis Weller (2015)

    Hi,

    I hesitated replying to this thread because I wasn't sure if it is okay to suggest my own book.  I am the author of Mourning and Milestones:  Honoring Anniversaries, Birthdays and Special Occasions After a Loved One Dies.  (ISBN: 978-1-61852-102-6)  It is the story of my journey through the first two years after my husband's death, one milestone event at a time.  It also includes stories from  four widows and three widowers whose perspectives and experiences contrast with mine.  Each essay in the book has set out "Thoughts" boxes with the main points.  These can be used to guide discussion.  A local group used the book for their discussions and invited me to meet with them at the final meeting.  They reported finding the book helpful.

    Please feel free to contact me if you have any questions.
