Hi Lori,
For context, our hospice covers 7 counties, both urban and rural areas, in eastern Iowa. We have an average daily census of about 115.
As the Psychosocial Services Manager, I serve as the "manager" for the bereavement department and the bereavement staff. Our bereavement department/staff are actually separate from our Volunteer Coordinator/department.
We have 2 staff in our bereavement department; a bereavement coordinator and a bereavement counselor. Both staff help facilitate our groups, meet 1:1 with folks, provide phone calls, all the usual bereavement activities. However, the coordinator is responsible for additional duties, including leading the planning for our events (i.e. our memorial services, our children's camp, etc), planning and leading outreach activities for each year, developing and maintaining community relationships, developing new or updating programming, creating outreach materials, and coordinating the volunteers who volunteer in the bereavement department. We do operate with 2 different job descriptions for the counselor and the coordinator, because the coordinator has job functions listed on the job description noting the above areas.

Subject: Community Bereavement Job Description
Hi Everyone,
I am the Volunteer Manager with my hospice and community outreach has recently been added to my role. We have a vision to expand our bereavement services into the community as well as develop a school-based grief support system. I have been tasked with creating a job description for the person that will be leading this program. If anyone is willing to share their job description with me for a community bereavement coordinator/manager/counselor, I would be most grateful! I'm also very open to any advice you have to share as we begin this new and exciting journey to support our community more. Thank you so kindly for your consideration.
