  • 1.  EGSS - Evaluation Survey

Do any of you do anything special just prior to the EGSS (Evaluation of Grief Support Services) Survey to increase the response rate?  I believe, the EGSS is sent 14 months after a patient's death.

We are attempting to decide if we should send a postcard reminder or some other notification to the bereaved to let them know the survey would be coming in an attempt to increase the response rates.

Any thoughts?  Even if you use another form of surveys do you do anything to increase the response rates?

    Thanks!

Several years ago with the FEBS (Family Evaluation of Bereavement Services and predecessor to the EGSS) when our respnse rate was low we switched from white to green paper and it made a noticeable difference in our response rate. The other suggestion I would have is to make sure you are following the suggested format for assembling the EGSS, ie staple it along the left hand side of the page so it opens like a book rather than on the top left. By stapling it on the left hand side it's far easier to turn the pages and fill out (this is a research based finding - I was involved in developing the original FEBS with the researchers we worked with).

    Hi -

We do not doing anything special before sending and we have a very low return rate.  I am open to any suggestions.  We have streamlined ours and it does open like a book.  For some reason, we have never had high returns.

To increase our return rate and prepare people for the EGSS, this past year we added a smaller survey earlier that asks in a few questions to indicate how we may better serve them? We also let our bereaved clients that do access our services via telephone calls, counseling, and support groups, that a survey is coming after 13 mo and that we appreciate and look forward to hearing their feedback.
