    Hello all,

Our hospice just received funding for a teen grief event. I was wondering if other agencies have an event for teens and what that looks like. I am specifically wondering what the time frame is for the event and what activities you use. Did you do a one-day camp or was it over multiple days or sessions? How long was the camp? What materials did you use? Did you limit the age ranges? How did you publicize the camp or where did referrals come from?

For a few years we tried doing an overnight teen retreat but never got attendance to where we wanted it to be so finally dropped it. Teens are so busy, it just didn't seem to work for us so I'll be interested in hearing if it has worked for other programs

Moyer Foundation is doing what I consider one of the best Grief Camp Trainings in the nation next month in Chicago if you budget and time would allow you to attend.

We have offered a children and teens grief camp for the past 14 years. We offer it to kids between 6-17 years of age. It is a 3-day, 2-night camp experience. It is called CAMP HOPE and we take 40 campers every August. We accept referrals from individuals from the community, our hospice families, the schools, churches and counseling centers within our 50 mile service area. We provide all the regular activities of a summer camp (swimming, canoeing, bonfires, s'mores...etc.) but we also provide grief work activities in-between (memory pillows, fishbowl-of-feelings, treasure boxes, feeling cubes...etc.) Our camp is donor and fund-raiser funded. There is no charge for the camper. We average between 38-40 campers annually.

    Hi-
We have had a couple of successful teen retreats (ages 14-17) on a Saturday in the spring. We had one 1-4. and one 4-7 pm.  The ones we have tried in the, we have had to cancel due to low turnout.  We've done things like martial arts, jewelry making, a bonfire, etc....  It seems to be hit or miss with teens outside of school. We do several school groups so hopefully, we are meeting a need there.

    Hi Sami,
We provide a grief camp annually for children and teens, Camp Erin-Santa Cruz. Some activities are all together and some are separated by age. Music has been a common denominator and we have some lightly structured time where campers can gather and play songs that speak to them, talk, write lyrics. One year they decided to make a list of songs that were popular with the theme of death. It was quite a list! I think for us, less structure allows for more creativity for teens. The funding sounds like a great opportunity!
