Does anyone have any particular programming or events that you have felt attracted our young Adult Mourners. We would like to begin more programming to support this group. Thank you so much for ideas that have worked.

    Hi Karen,
I run a group called Loss of Parent for Young Adults (ages 20 - 35) with a little wiggle room as appropriate. I have done it for three sessions. We usually provide one in the Spring and one in the Fall. It is six weeks and the curriculum I've created is tailored to that age group with plenty of space to change as the group develops. All three sessions have been well attended and I hear from all three groups that they still meet and support each other. It's been amazing and clearly was a need. I'd be happy to share more if that would be helpful.

That sounds lovely Carol!  I used to run a young adult group and found the with the young adults' schedules both either those in an academic setting or those in early career, the groups we offered that were more structured were more successful (better attended and higher satisfaction). Thus we ceased to offer a drop-in style, which is what we initially started with, and offered a spring and fall closed, curriculum style group which sounds similar to Carol's experience re: what worked.

Sure what specifically?  This was a group I ran in a prior job from 2009-2014 in another community. I do not know if it still is being provided.  We did not limit by loss and used a very similar curriculum to our regular 8-wk closed group, just ensuring that the attendees had age shared in common. Let me know what more youd like to know!

    Hi -
We ran a group for a few years for young adults.  We initially did it as our six-week Circle of Hope group but held it every other week to accommodate the members.  Then it went to a monthly group.  There was a core that kept it together and a marvelous facilitator.  After a few years, it was time to close the group.
    Good luck to you,
    Diane

    Hi Karen,

Our hospice is doing a Creativity & Grief Workshop for Young Adults (ages 18-35 or so), using music therapy interventions (several of our bereavement coordinators are board-certified music therapists) and visual arts experiences. After the workshop, we will be surveying the participants to gauge interest for ongoing programming. We are having the workshop at a local creative arts therapy center that is closer to public transportation options, and has an atmosphere that is more conducive to creativity, as opposed to having it at our office or at one of the local hospitals. I'd be happy to be in touch with you in the future to let you know how our programming is going!

    Best,
    Molly

Molly- I look forward to talking with you more. We have a great team of music therapists and I think there are some ways we can tap into this idea as well as incorporating some of the other ideas expressed. Thank you and I will reach out to you soon to chat more.
