    All,

I am planning my annual Service of Remembrance, and I want to include something for the patients who were Veterans.  Does anyone have a poem, reading or any other suggestion?  It doesn't have to be lengthy – I just want it to be meaningful for the families in attendance.

Many thanks, in advance – I have found this forum to be extremely helpful.

In Flanders Fields. Poem. It's epic in my opinion.

    Marcy,

At our Rose Memorial last year we invited the local Volley For Veterans Honor Guard to present Military Honors.  We decided to reduce the time designated for Meditation.  After the Military Honors we lit a Veterans Candle with a short statement.  The service continued with our traditional candle lighting and responsive reading.  At the reception we have the Missing Soldiers Table set up.  The response was very positive and we plan to have the Honor Guard again this year.  Here is the link for the Amarillo, TX Volley for Veterans website. www.volleysforveterans.com

We include Veterans in our Memorial Service. We show slides of the veterans who died on our service that year. (The pictures come from our We Honor Veterans program, where the team presents our Veteran patient with a certificate and a thank you for their service at a small ceremony in their home. Releases are obtained at that time to include these pictures in our Memorial.)  We talk a little about our program, then we ask for any Veterans in the audience to stand up and they are presented with a flag pin, then we have relatives of a Veteran stand and we present them with a flag pin.  Everyone sits and during a moment of silence we play "Taps" softly in the background.  It's quick but lovely and moving.  All appreciate taking the time to remember them.

I love the suggestions for remembering and honoring our veteran patients during the Memorial Service.  This was something I've not done in the past, but with these great suggestions, I will incorporate into our service this year. Thank you for sharing!
