Bereavement Satisfaction survey/ EGSS

For those that send out satisfaction surveys to your discharged bereaved,  following the 13 months of bereavement service, do you send to ALL bereaved or do you send to a smaller random sampling?  And for those who use the DEYTA/ EGSS survey, have you found it to be helpful?  Any feedback anyone would like to share would be greatly appreciated.

    Many thanks, in advance-

We send out Bereavement Assessments to any family member who has received our services for the 13 months post death.  Our survey entails just 10 questions.  We tend to get approximately a 25% return on them.

    Hi -
We send the EGSS to all the bereaved.  It helps us determine how we are doing and areas to improve.  It's good to see what others are doing but mostly we benchmark against ourselves just for the reason you asked the question.  If some are sending to only a sampling or only to the bereaved they have seen, it's different than sending to all.  Hope that helps.

Does anyone know what is considered the average or expected return on the satisfaction survey? For 2018 we were at 21%.

I'm not sure what the average is but we were at 21 % as well.

    Hi Marcy,

We have used the DEYTA/EGSS survey, and I find this to be very useful. It is sent to all, but a small percentage return them (far less than the 21% that Susan mentions). Nevertheless, it provides helpful feedback for my department. We went without it for a while due to costs, and one of our future goals is to create our own online survey for those who can return it that way, but in the meantime I would say it is a great tool for capturing useful feedback.

    Hi Susan,

I think that's a great return rate.  Ours is about 12% but we still find the data helpful.  We also send a very short survey at 6 months that our agency created. The return rate on that is also small but we find it valuable as another touch point and reminds the bereaved that we are available to them.

I started doing the EGSS in Jan 2019. The first two months I got a return rate of 17-20%. For March - May, I only revived 1 back each month and stopped after that. Not sure what happened. I was new to the role of bereavement coordinator. Perhaps there was an issue in the preceding year that I am unaware of. I plan to restart the EGSS next month.

Our organization has recently started sending out the EGSS to all bereaved who received the full 13 months of bereavement services.
We have been averaging around 23% return rate.
