We typically send out cards or booklets to bereaved at these intervals- within in first 2 weeks, 3 months, 6 months, 9 months, 12 months.  I'm considering some changes to include winter and spring holiday season without adding to the number of mailings we make.  What do other organizations do?  I'd be interested to hear.

    Hi Nancy!

We have very similar timing: a sympathy card within 2 weeks, an introductory letter with some resources at 1 month, newsletters at 3, 6 and 9 months, an invitation to our memorial, and a final 13 mo letter.

We use the Hope Through Healing Publication. We send everyone that requests mailings the holiday article in November. We are on the same schedule as you are.

    Rev. Nancy,

I do our bereavement mailings at 1-mo, 2-mo, 3-mo, 5-mo, 8-mo, 11-month intervals with a final one-year letter.  If I were restructuring the mailings, I would definitely decrease the number of mailings.  In all our mailings, I enclose a notice that the bereaved may opt to discontinue their mailings and/or bereavement phone calls at any point by notifying me. I do get a few requests to discontinue the mailings probably amounting to less than 10% for the year.

    Hope this helps!

We, also, have a very similar schedule:  Sympathy Card within 2 weeks, 1 month, 3 month, 6 month, 9 month and 13 month mailings.  These mailings always include a schedule of the support groups  We also send a one year anniversary card, a memorial service invitation and a Coping with the Holidays mailing.
