  • 1.  Grief Support Groups

    Hello, I'm looking to connect a bereavement client to a grief support group.  They are in need of connection with others and are unable to attend in-person groups (not that there are many right now).  Is anyone aware of virtual support groups that are live and using the phone, zoom or the like?  They are not interested in chat rooms or psychoeducation groups. I'm aware of the Grief in Common group but the $20 a session fee is a little steep the this individual.

    Hi Karen,

    I suggest that your client contact any local Hospice. In the case of Oregon, almost all of our Hospices are offering groups on Zoom or other platforms and we're open to anyone in the community.

    St. Francis Reflections Life Stage Care has three online -twice-monthly grief support groups that are currently accepting new members: Tuesday evening and afternoon and Thursday afternoon.  If they are interested feel free to have them call me, Jennifer Simmons, at 321-349-4347 or email my department at griefsupport@reflectionslsc.org.

    I work for an LHC group hospice in Upper Michigan and the LHC Group has a free and open to the public once a month national call in group called Grief Speak.  I have attended several and I like the format.  It is one of the hospice bereavement speakers talking for the first 10-15 minutes and then if a person wants there is the opportunity to share and ask questions.  It is a long distance number as a heads up if someone does not have long distance service or pays for long distance calls. 

    Grief Speak- The 2nd Tuesday of each month at 7pm EST and again at 9pm EST.  (Think East Coast Time zone)

    Hi Karen- 

    I run a weekly Grief Social Hour that meets on Mondays from 12-1 Pacific time. It is hosted on Zoom. It is no cost to participate. 

    The structure is informal peer support so conversation topics are determined by those who attend. It is a space for them to discuss whatever members bring to the group each week. Since it is peer support (not a therapeutic intervention), people from outside of Oregon are able to participate. 

    I also have a private facebook group Living with Grief that people can use to connect on their time with others. Membership questions are required to be approved. It is one way for me to verify it is a legitimate person requesting to join. Several of the social hour members are in the Facebook group so it is a nice way to stay connected to each other between our monday meetups.
