    Hello,

As I enter into my new role as bereavement coordinator I am wondering if and how you utilize technology to reach out to families and friends of bereaved. Does anyone use email to send resources and letters? Does anyone create an "email list" that bereaved might choose to be a part of to get resources sent to them?

    Thanks!

We ask in the bereavement satisfaction survey we created in they would like to receive future emails from us.

That survey goes out with final letter at 13 months.

Then, they are placed on group email list.

A year has now passed, but we can still remain in contact and provide quarterly grief articles and information appropriate for that timeframe, time of year or season, or current events that may impact grief.

Also, we ask in survey about becoming a volunteer.

All emails go out in bind copy or bcc for privacy.

We document with Suncoast Solutions so don't currently have a way to email our newsletters. Once we have spoken to clients and have admitted them into bereavement, since all our groups are currently virtual, we do email those who are at a Support Group level of service the links to the groups they are interested in attending.  And often when providing phone or Zoom support, if what they are talking about ties in with some of the 1-2 page handouts we've developed, we often email those in follow-up to the counseling session. Keep an eye on this listserve to watch for announcements because the Bereavement Professional steering committee periodically offers chats for people new to the Bereavement Coordinator position. They also offer the option of having a mentor if that would be helpful to you.

About a year ago we started to email out our newsletters to those who request it rather than regular mail.  Our marketing team set it up on the website so they can sign up for email newsletters (this could be family members or general public).  Then the newsletters are sent out on a designated schedule.  We then have to track who gets print and who gets email version as our emr doesn't distinguish.

Hi Rebecca, we still do traditional bereavement mailings to families after a patient dies. However when a person calls to register for counseling or a group, we ask if they want to receive our monthly e-newsletter. We use MailChimp for this electronic communication and so far it is still free because we haven't reached the 2,000 email address threshold when MailChimp requires a fee for use.
