Hello – We will soon be converting to Homecare Homebase software, and I'm wondering if there are others out there that have used it for bereavement? I'm wondering about functionality and what's worked well or not.  You can e-mail me at Lori.Williams2@slhduluth.com (note the "2" after my name).   Thanks so much!!

    Hi, Lori!

I've used Homecare Homebase for bereavement for three years, and I like it.  It sets up a care plan based on the answers I give on the bereavement assessment, then prompts me when it's time to send a card, letter, or make a phone call.  It makes everything easy.

Our Hospice is transitioning to this in the summer. I am hoping it is friendlier to Bereavement than our previous EMR Software.

We've used HCHB for 4 years. There are good aspects and challenging ones. What I've discovered is that while there is a standard foundation for all hospices, each company that purchases the database software makes its own changes. There are aspects that our company modified that create some glitches and there are others that just the way HCHB made the foundation. EMR across the board has such challenges.

I'm curious if others find a few of the grief assessment questions (both in the separate bereavement assessment & in SW/Chaplain documentation) a little outdated? There are references to pathological grief, stages of grief, etc. that infer outdated theory and practices.

    Good luck with your transition!
