Our Grief Support Services department is currently evaluating how we handle the process of completing condolence cards. These cards are completed by hand. This creates numerous challenges. If you have a moment, please share how your organization manages bereavement cards. Thank you for your time and support, in advance.

    Hi Bruce,

    \

We participate weekly in the IDG meeting and the cards are taken to the meeting and circulated for signature.  They are cards for the bereaved whose loved ones were discussed with the team the week before (the first IDG following the date of death). Our wonderful bereavement volunteers create the cards with the names of the bereaved identified at the team meeting (we follow more than one family member).  In this way, our bereaved receive their sympathy card approx. 2 1/2 to 3 weeks post death.

    Hope this helps,

    \

    Brenda,

Thank you so much for taking the time to respond. I so appreciate your taking the time and making the effort. I will bring the idea of using our volunteers up at our next staff meeting. Because individual's hand-writing is a  big part of this process, how do you manage unreadable penmanship?

We follow the same kind of process described by Brenda above.  The IDG teams send condolence cards signed by all of the team members at IDG.

    Thanks Chelsea,

I appreciate your taking the time to respond. We've been doing the same process but keep running into a list of complications, like not being able to read people's handwriting or only 1 or 2 people on the team sign the card;- and other specifics related to our particular software program. Our attempt is to find a more efficient way of completing and mailing the cards. Thank you again for your support.
