Trends in Volunteerism & How They May Impact Bereavement Programs (Chat Slides & Recording)

08-30-2018 03:06 PM

In September's Bereavement Professional Section Chat we featured members from the NCHPP Volunteer/Volunteer Management Section as they discussed how there are many opportunities for volunteers to serve within the bereavement department and how some volunteers feel led to work in that area.  We also learned about today’s trends in volunteerism and how they can impact your current bereavement program!

NOTE: When listening to the recording, please note the correction from speaker Lori:

I need to correct myself regarding counting hours for bereavement camps: In order to count bereavement hours towards the 5% figure, the volunteer time has to be direct contact with a patient/family through hospice (whether in person or on the phone) or office support, not community outreach projects. If your camp is only for hospice families in bereavement, then it could be counted but for our hospice, most campers are not there as a result of a hospice death.

Resource for tote bag Lori mentioned during the chat, only as a suggestion as this works for their hospice, they use: Hopkins Medical Products catalog, item number is: 539449 + color, and that includes the combo lock.  Please google for more information.
