Does anyone know if a patient can go to a SNF on skilled days for an unrelated condition and stay on hospice services under a cancer dx? I could not find a clear cut answer in the regulations. Thanks!

I wanted to see if anyone can tell me how you handle people going on vacation. In the past we have contracted with a Hospice in the area the pt. will be visiting to facilitate care during their vacation. We were not discharging the pt. during that time frame but did not bill for the days they were out of the service area. According to the Regulatory Alert on the new condition codes it appears we should have been/should be discharging them during this time frame. Could it be considered a revocation since this is their choice. Just trying to weigh the options. If anyone has some insight it will be appreciated.

What if I told you that some patients live longer on hospice than they otherwise would have? Well, that’s exactly what one study strongly suggests.
